So far,
we've been talking about selling items by
scanning them. What happens if you can't
scan the item? Perhaps the bar code is damaged
or missing. Perhaps the scanner is acting
up. You can type the UPC number that's on
the bottle. You can type the five digit
SKU number assigned by the computer. Or
use the BROWSE key to find the item.
You can narrow down your search with a combination
of three options: Use the TYPE pull
down menu to select a specific type code
or leave it blank to select by brand name
only. POINT TO THE TYPE PULL DOWN.
Use SEARCH to identify part of the
name of the product you are looking for.
POINT TO THE SEARCH PULL DOWN.
Use ACTIVE ONLY to eliminate items
you no longer sell. POINT TO ACTIVE ONLY.
Most likely a cashier will opt to use search
by brand name only. A typical cashier may
not be familiar with the various product
type breakdowns. And he doesn't have to
be! It's easier and quicker to type part
of the name of the product. But for those
experienced retailers, you do have the option
to narrow down your search by product type.
ALT S CTRL Y TYPE SEAG AND ENTER. SELECT
A PRODUCT. TAB TO RETURN TO SALES SCREEN.
You've found the item and sold it without
scanning.here are other reasons for using
the BROWSE function.
HIT BROWSE. For example, a customer
is looking for a particular product. Use
BROWSE to find out if you have the product
in stock. TYPE BOLLA AND ENTER. You
can tell the customer whether or not you
have the product without ever leaving the
front counter!
And BROWSE gives you an additional searching
feature that is especially useful. We call
this a wildcard search. HIT BROWSE. TYPE
*CHARD. SELECT ACACIA. A customer may
be looking for a Chardonnay between $20-$25.
The * tells BROWSE to look through the entire
brand name for a match of CHARD--not just
the first five letters! All Chardonnays
are displayed immediately
